JOB SEEKERS SEEK SHORT INTERVIEWS
Survey: 75% of candidates decide after 15 minutes

Hectic lifestyles are influencing the way UK job seekers look for work with the majority in favor of 15-minute 'speed interviews', recruitment experts have claimed

In a poll of over 1,100 candidates by totaljobs, some 87% said that they would welcome the introduction of quick sessions for applicants and employers to get the measure of each other before a longer interview.

Three quarters of candidates said they make up their minds about a company within the first 15 minutes of a traditional job interview.

A further quarter admitted to actually feeling ready to walk out or start work after just 5 minutes.

Three fifths believed that trying to find time to juggle work, family and a social life made it difficult to attend interviews. Another 25% revealed they had turned down an interview because they couldn't find time to squeeze it into their day.

Keith Robinson, of totaljobs.com, said: "As we have seen with the recent speed dating phenomenon, we don't even have time for proper dinner dates anymore so it's not surprising that people are looking to apply the same hard and fast rules elsewhere
"Recruitment is a serious business, and the speed-interview is not a substitute for a formal, in-depth interview - it's simply a way of helping candidates decide which companies they'd like to concentrate their time and efforts on."

He added that employers still view the new concept with caution, favouring traditional interviews as a low-risk, tried and tested way of recruiting new staff. This means it will be a long-time before speed interviewing is widespread
